TrakNet EMR

05/13/2011      Brooke Weaver

Like everyone else, we faced the EHR decision. It wasn’t the enticement of the money offered, but more the fear of the fee cut if we did not have appropriate software that made us commit to a new product. We had been a Medinotes/Lytec user since the beginning and the thought of changing was a bit intimidating. We liked what we had and we knew the ins and outs of the program, so changing was not high on the list of things we really wanted to do.

After careful consideration, we did choose Traknet and have to say are very pleased we did. Having trainers available to us that came from a Medinotes/Lytec background helped tremendously, especially when we could say “speak Medinotes to me.” They were able to make the correlation between what we knew and how that worked in Traknet, making the transition that much easier.

We have learned so much over the last six months of what this program is capable of doing and have been very pleased with the response and updates they have made during this time. I will admit that the reports in the beginning were extensive and a bit overwhelming, but the new reporting structure is easy and user-friendly, and if I want the old reports, they are still available. One of the best things is the step- by-step Meaningful Use guide that is available on their website. It took us step-by-step through each measure to make sure we were hitting all the right spots. Our billing department has taken the time both with Gateway and Traknet to really learn all of this part of the program and is pleased. While we don’t have the challenge of multiple offices, we do have multiple nursing facilities and being able to attach a patient to a facility is very helpful. We no longer have to keep track on an excel spreadsheet.

Whether you choose Traknet or another program, the best advice I can give you is to invest the time to really learn the program. Initial training will get you started but really learning how everything functions will ensure you get the most out of your investment. No one program is going to be right for everyone, but we like having one that is dedicated to podiatry; not just another company trying to make it work for our specialty.
