RESPONSES / COMMENTS - OBITUARIES

RE: Edward Imko, DPM

From: Mackie J. Walker, Jr., DPM

It is with a heavy heart that I miss my beloved friend and colleague and mourn the passing of Dr. Ed Imko. I recall his wonderful mind and intellect moving faster than his ability to articulate his passion, and his famous chicken scratch faxes of yesteryear, before the age of e-mail. We will all miss him greatly.

Dr. Edward Imko

I spoke with Dr. Tom Miller yesterday and was moved by his comments about Ed. As he noted, and all of us senior members remember, Ed, at great personal sacrifice of time, energy, effort and his own limited financial resources gave well beyond his share to our profession and particularly the SCPMA! His efforts in the state legislature, his service on the Executive Committee, as President of the SCPMA, and his service as APMA delegate for many years laid the groundwork for our efforts today. He was in Columbia as much as most legislators, all at his own expense and time from his office, long before we had a budget and a legislative committee or PAC.

RESPONSES / COMMENTS - OBITUARIES

RE: Adolph W. Galinski, DPM

From: Multiple Respondents

It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of Dr. Adolph Galinski. He was certainly an inspiration and mentor to us all. He portrayed the "tough as steel" exterior, while possessing the " soft and gentle " interior. We would shake in our shoes in the classroom and the OR, but he taught us well and we learned our stuff! He will certainly be missed by all his former students and colleagues. My prayers go out to Mary and the entire family.

I am sitting here at my desk in absolute shock just reading the news of the passing of Dr. Galinski. He was a tough instructor both in the class room as well as the operating room, and his students are much better off because of his demanding ways. I have to admit that there were times that I feared him, but he also instilled a deep pride in our profession. He taught, "You treat patients, not x-rays!" At meetings, he expressed personal and professional contentment and such a deep love and pride of his family. It is to them that I send my deepest condolences.

Michael W. Lawrence, DPM, Chattanooga, TN

I am very sad to read of Dr. Adolph Galinski's passing. He was my anatomy and surgery instructor at ICPM in the early 70s. I never met a more dedicated teacher in my life. My respect for Dr. Galinski continually grew over the past 36 years. He believed in his students. I will always remember him talking to me while I did my first scrub. I counted every brush-stroke. When I was done, he said, "Now, do it with your mask on? He will be greatly missed.

I suggest that memorial donations should be sent to the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. This is where he dedicated his life.
