Prolotherapy is often learned by studying under
another physician and then gaining pearls from
different doctors and publications. I personally
picked up techniques from local doctors that I
contacted, and have been actively using prolo
and PRP for the past 8 years. Dr. Robert
Kornfeld helped me with some excellent protocols
and solutions when I attended his course in
Florida.
A first start is to read the Prolo bible by
Hackett, Hemwall, and Montgomery called Ligament
and Tendon Relaxation Treated by Prolotherapy.
Next, I would check out the Hackett Hemwall
foundation to learn and watch for their
seminars. Training courses are listed also on
the Journal of Prolotherapy Website. Thses
courses will be full body however and may
contain limited foot, ankle and leg. This is
also a great resource for articles and
techniques. Dr. Hauser has a great site called
CaringMedical.com.
I recommend finding someone local that will
train you one on one, in addition to a seminar.
It could be an MD or DO that's in a neighboring
town or some even go to other cities.
Prolotherapy is not just a matter of buying
solutions and injecting them. There is a
definite learning curve that can be steep. I've
had podiatrists tell me that they don't need
training because they know the anatomy and its a
harmless solution. Most of those people have
failed and can't fathom why their patient's
don't get good results! It's not just anatomy,
it's not just solutions. It is a specialized
technique in the way you inject, where you
inject, frequency, solution choices etc. The
protocols involve multiple ultrasound-guided
injections during a session with a patient.
It is caring for a patient and can be mutually
rewarding. Prolotherapy produces amazing results
when you learn correctly and hone your skills.
The procedures do carry with them the
dreaded "cash" word! This is not covered by
insurance. So I love the fact that I can help
the patient become pain-free without surgery and
they want to pay me! Don't undervalue your
services.
I use Apothecure and a local compounding source
for solutions.
And one last comment. This is considered
alternative medicine. Please don't write me hate
letters about alternative medcine and lack of
EBM. Also, I love what I do as a podiatrist, so
please don't send me letters about how horrible
this profession is and how I'm not real Dr. like
your MD friends that don't sell cash services or
products. Thanks in advance.
I say make this the New Year of being happy.
Only you can change your destiny. Blaming and
Complaining makes you go backwards and is only
an attempt to pull other down with you. Just Say
NO!
