Time for Podiatrists to be listed as Castle Connolly Top Doctors
Well It's that time of the year again when Castle Connolly is open for nominations for its published lists of Top Doctors across the country. Every year, I nominate doctors that I have worked with closely and know to be among the best in their area of specialty. Every year, it is a bittersweet experience as I cannot nominate deserving doctors of my own specialty. For as long as I can remember, podiatry has been excluded from this publication.
This year, I have written to William Liss- Levinson, PhD, VP, Chief Strategy & Operations Officer. His email address is: bliss- levinson@castleconnolly.com.
I have included my letter below as an example. Please take a few moments from your busy day to write as I have. I don't necessarily expect that this will change their policy. They are a private publication and can do what they like. I could not stand by and watch us be excluded again as a profession without speaking my mind.

================
Dear Dr. Liss-Levinson, I am writing to request that Podiatrists be included as a specialty category in your publications. I have been in practice since 1995 and for as long as I recall your company has excluded my profession from your list of Top Doctors. Podiatry, as I am sure you are aware, is a long established medical and surgical specialty. Podiatrists are actively practicing in every major healthcare institution including NYU Langone Medical Center, NY Presbyterian, Mt. Sinai, and Northwell Health System to name just a few here in New York. In addition, Podiatrists practice in every major healthcare system in the country including the Mao Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, Johns Hopkins, UCLA Medical Center, and the VA system.
Podiatrists are among the most accomplished foot and ankle surgeons in the United States. We, as a profession, manage foot and ankle trauma of every severity, correct congenital and acquired deformities of the foot and ankle, treat debilitating arthritic conditions, neurologically induced contractures and muscle imbalance, and are a vital component of the limb salvage team for complicated cases of diabetes related infections of the lower extremity.
I request that you consider podiatry as a deserving and valued specialty, and open your panel for nominations of doctors of podiatric medicine in your next issue.
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Michael Loshigian, DPM, FACFAS Board Certified Foot Surgeon New York City, NY
