During my rotation at the Gouverneur clinic as a resident, Allen was an attending of mine. He was always informative and offered a kind word. The one fault was that he talked so damned fast (LOL). Rest in Peace and my best to his family.

I was very saddened to learn of Allen's passing. It's a terrible shock to read a classmate's obituary. More years have passed than I'm sure our class cares to admit, but I clearly remember Allen as a hard-working, intelligent student, who always managed to smile and laugh and lend a helping hand. May his memory be a source of blessing and comfort to his family. Rest in peace.

Allen was my classmate at NYCPM. I don’t think I’ve seen him in perhaps 35 years. But I do remember his friendly, easy-going demeanor and sense of humor. It’s sad when one of your peers passes away. It brings back memories of the hard work and hilarity that we experienced at NYCPM, Class of ‘80. Allen was a fine person and I’m sure a great podiatrist. My condolences to his family.

Norman Goldman was a good friend. We went back to the the late 1960s and early 70s. He wound up here in the military at Ft. Meade, Maryland for about two years. We spent some time doing surgical procedures in the military together. He always wanted to learn. We saw each other at various podiatry conferences and had a great time remembering the good times we both had. I extend my deepest sympathy to his family and his lovely wife Ophelia. He will be missed.

From: John Chisholm DPM

Thank you, PM News, for the kind notice of the passing of my friend Skip. You accurately portrayed the accomplishments of a pioneer in podiatric medicine here in San Diego. I practiced with him for 25 years, and the love he had for his patients was exceeded only by their love for him. He worked part time right up to the time of his passing.

Skip was a remarkable man in so many ways. He was a licensed pilot, a professional musician (Outstanding Guitarist at the Monterey Jazz Festival), an avid hunter and fisherman, and spent his summers working as hunting guide in Colorado. He built a home in the mountains of San Diego with his own hands.

Skip always said, "I just want to keep hunting, fishing, and working until I drop dead." He died while fishing on his beloved Lake Jennings. He went out just like he lived - a winner, on his own terms. I will miss my friend and mentor. So will his patients, family, and colleagues here in San Diego.

Reflecting back to my years as a student, I fondly remember how Carl was so welcoming to student leaders. He became a role model to many of us through his love of podiatry and leadership skills. Much of his time was spent mentoring podiatry students and practitioners to be their best and address challenges along their path. His daughter Jennifer carries his torch forward with deep pride and conviction.

Dr. Carl Purvis will be greatly missed, by the North Carolina Podiatry Association, and certainly by his family and especially his daughter Jennifer who had been in practice with him. Carl has been a longtime friend and colleague and a past member of the Civic and Kern Hospital Alumni Association. Podiatry needs more doctors like Carl representing this profession. He will be greatly missed.
