65 Percent of All Kids are in Wrong Shoe Sizes
Your kid’s cool Adidas sneakers may look great, but do they fit properly? Shoes that are too small put children at risk of foot deformities and other serious health issues. The bad news for parents; almost two thirds of all children are wearing shoes that are too small!
|
Most children are wearing the wrong size shoes. |
Blitzresults conducted a survey and found that 65% of all kids are wearing shoes that are too small. Of these, 47% are one size too small and 18% are even two sizes too small. Only 35% are wearing the correct size and only 11% of those have “room to grow”.

Medicare will be Insolvent by 2026: Report
The financial condition of the government's bedrock retirement programs for middle- and working-class Americans remains shaky, with Medicare pointed toward insolvency by 2026, according to a report by the government's overseers of Medicare and Social Security. It paints a sobering picture of the programs, though it's relatively unchanged from last year's update. Social Security would become insolvent in 2035, one year later than previously estimated.
Both programs will need to eventually be addressed to avert automatic cuts should their trust funds run dry. Many on both sides actually agree that it would be better for Washington to act sooner rather than later to shore up the programs rather than wait until they are on the brink of insolvency and have to weigh more drastic steps.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY |
Get Paid for Procedures Insurance Won’t Cover - Part 5
Getting paid for procedures continues to become more complicated. Many doctors are adding new procedures to their offerings that patients want and can benefit from, such as Botox to treat migraine headaches, dermal fillers for aesthetic purposes, laser therapies for scar reduction, stem cell and platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections for musculoskeletal disorders, genetic testing, and many more. But insurance companies often won’t pay for them. Here are some ways to get paid:
5. Be clear about all treatment options. If there are alternative options available, share them with the patient and discuss the pros and cons of each. For example, a patient with a torn meniscus may benefit from physical therapy and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, which insurance will cover. However, some options not covered by insurance, such as PRP and stem cell injections, may have greater efficacy and be longer acting. When a patient is aware of everything that is available, they may opt for the therapy that they have to pay for themselves. If you don’t discuss all the alternatives, they may think you are just trying to sell them something.

CODINGLINE CORNER |
Query: Therapeutic Shoe Program
Regarding the CMN/Statement of Cert. Phys. for Therapeutic Shoe Form, is it absolutely necessary to have my diagnosis and the primary care physician’s diagnosis match on this form? We send a copy of our recent progress note to the primary care physician and probably 25-50% of the time, we have different diagnoses. They will agree on treating under the plan, needs shoes, needs inserts…but often have a different diagnosis than I do.
Kevin Smith, DPM, Moline, IL
Response: Not really. Your diagnosis may be diabetes related to their localized foot problem (i.e. Diabetes related foot ulcer) or related to a foot deformity (e.g. Charcot) where the MD supervising DM treatment is more likely to be more systemically focused on controlled/uncontrolled. Nowhere in the LCD does it stipulate the diagnosis must be the same. Simply the MD or DO note must document DM and a treatment plan. The prescribing entity must document the one of six pathologies listed in the LCD.
