"J" Code for Kenalog 40 mg
Query: "J" Code for Kenalog 40 mg From: Paul A. Galluzzo, DPM
Is there a "J" code for Kenalog 40 mg, and, if so, can it be billed separately along with the steroid injection?

[Codingline-L] Response:
Kenalog (triamcinolone acetonide) when administered intramuscularly is coded as J3301. This is based on a 10 mg-dosage. The number of "units" claimed is based on the concentration of the Kenalog. If you were to give a 1 cc injection of Kenalog-40, you would bill it as J3301 at "4" units. Therapeutic injectable agents, such as corticosteroids, are billed in addition to the injection administration codes.
